Thursday Night Football has a monster matchup in the NFC West when the Los Angeles Rams come to CenturyLink Field to face the Seattle Seahawks.
Sports Handicappers opened this game with the home Seahawks as slim +1.5 underdogs, however, early action has landed on Seattle and flipped this spread, to Seahawks -1 at some sportsbooks. The total for Thursday night is sitting at 49 points.
If you’re betting the NFL odds for Rams at Seahawks, here are the key angles to factor into your plays.
Off and running
The Seahawks didn’t have to work too hard to edge the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, getting a defensive score on a pick six and turning to running back Chris Carson to do most of the damage. After a three-fumble performance for the Seahawks in Week 3, Carson answered the call in a big way with 104 yards on the ground and four catches for 41 yards against Arizona.
Seattle is one of the top teams in time of possession and like to pound the ball and control pace when it can. Against the Rams in 2018, the Seahawks posted totals of 273 yards and 190 yards on the ground and take on a 2019 LA defense that is giving up only 91.8 rushing yard per contest and just 3.8 yards per carry. If Seattle can overcome that and repeat those numbers from last year, it will hide was is a suspect Seahawks defense.
At first glance it would seem the Rams have figured out their offensive issues, scoring 40 points and getting a huge day from quarterback Jared Goff in a loss to Tampa Bay in Week 4. But, with the Bucs building a big lead, Los Angeles had no choice but to air it out.
The Rams have struggled to pass in their two road games, averaging just 218.5 yards through the air as visitors, compared to more than 377 at home. Los Angeles showed the same drop off in production in 2018, averaging only 234.4 yards passing on the road while putting up 316.4 average yards at home.
Goff had a somewhat tough time in Seattle last year, going 23 for 32 for 321 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Rams pulled off a 33-30 win but couldn’t cover as 7.5-point favorites. In fact, Los Angeles has covered just once in its last five matchups with the rival Seahawks.
It’s classic Seattle football weather in the forecast for Thursday night, with temperatures dropping into the 40s and rain expected for kickoff at 8:30 pm EST. That wet and wild weather could make holding on to the football a challenge.
Seattle has had issues with turnovers already this year, with four giveaways on the year. Los Angeles has coughed up the ball nine times already through four games, including three interceptions and a fumble lost in the defeat to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
This total is hovering around 49 points for Thursday night. These NFC West rivals have played below the betting total in five of their seven meetings inside CenturyLink Field.
