Three CFP National Championship live longshots to watch in Week 5

Three CFP National Championship live longshots to watch in Week 5 | News Article by Sportshandicapper.com

September is coming to a close, which means college football is hitting the conference schedule hard. Teams are taking on familiar foes in the coming weeks, and the CFP National Championship odds will be set and re-set over and over.

As we head into Week 5, here are some Sports Betting Odds for teams to watch on the college football futures odds board as the month comes to an end and October begins.

Oregon Ducks (+10,000 odds to win CFP Title)
The Ducks were a popular sleeper to win the National Championship heading into the season, but those chances took a big hit in Week 1 when Oregon lost to Auburn. Give the landscape, a loss to an SEC team shouldn’t discount the Ducks too much but could be enough to push them out of the CFP final four conversation – even if Oregon wins outright the rest of the season.

The Ducks followed that loss to the Tigers with three dominant performances, knocking off Nevada, Montana, and Stanford by a combined score of 133-15. Heisman hopeful quarterback Justin Herbert has 14 touchdown passes and zero interception on the season, and that loss to Auburn may have happened early enough that the CFP committee may not weigh it as much as a more-recent blemish. Oregon needs to score style points to earn a spot in the playoffs, so betting on the Ducks against the spread isn’t a bad idea each week, knowing they have to lay it on thick.

Auburn Tigers (+4,000)
As we mentioned, Auburn has a big resume win over Oregon in the season opener and takes a 4-0 record into Week 5. The Tigers are at home to Mississippi State this Saturday, then run a SEC gauntlet with three straight road stops at Florida, at Arkansas and at LSU scheduled for October.

If it can somehow escape that stretch with a zero in the loss column, Auburn plays its final four games of the regular season at home. Although, two of those games are against Georgia and Alabama in the Iron Bowl for the season finale. The Tigers likely need Alabama or UGA to slip up to earn a spot in the SEC Championship but if the end the year with only one loss, there’s a good shot they get a CFP playoff nod.

Virginia Cavaliers (+50,000)
It’s a longshot, that’s for sure. Virginia could have those national title hopes wiped out this weekend against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. However, should the Cavaliers stun the Golden Domers and improve to 5-0, this futures price will drop dramatically.

Looking past Notre Dame, Virginia has a realistic chance to win out, with its toughest challenges coming at UNC and in the final game of the year versus Virginia Tech. Clemson will be waiting in the ACC Championship more than likely, and only one team from this conference is making the CFP cut. The Cavs play four of their next five on the road, where this program is 47-68 SU since 2010 – the lowest winning percentage as a visitor among ACC schools. So, don’t hold your breath.
