Four MLB teams cashing in big for Over bettors

Four MLB teams cashing in big for Over bettors | News Article by

Betting MLB totals is unlike wagering on the Over/Under in any other sport. Even if a game is scoreless through 8.5 innings of action, the Over can still cash in. With no time limit, no Under bet is safe in the major leagues – especially when it comes to these clubs and their early-season betting totals results.

Here’s some sports betting tips to keep in mind when looking at the best Over plays in baseball out of the gate:

Pittsburgh Pirates (9-4 Over/Under)
The Pirates have been a stunner for baseball bettors through three weeks of action. Pittsburgh has not only stacked +5.53 units of profits with a 9-4 record, but have also topped the total in nine of its first 13 games heading into the weekend.

The Bucs are bashing the ball to start 2018, pushing more than six runs per game past home plate. Pittsburgh is hitting a collective .272 BA and has launched 18 home runs already – seventh most in the majors. But it’s not all on the bats. The pitching staff is allowing almost five runs and outing and ranks 26th in collective ERA in the bigs.

Even if the Pirates’ hitters cool off – and they will – there could be good value going with the Over in Pittsburgh games as their pitching staff will continue to give up a surplus of runs.

New York Yankees (9-4-1 Over/Under)
At first glance, it would seem natural to have the Yankees among the top Over bets in baseball. The Bronx Bombers do, after all, have Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge stepping up to the plate. New York is producing 5.5 runs per outing and has hit 18 total homers through 14 games. But it’s not those big bats really making the difference for Over bettors.

The Yankees pitching has been rotten to start the season, namely the bullpen. New York’s relievers have a 4.71 ERA and have blown two saves in only four opportunities. Now, this Over value may not stick around if the relievers can limit their mistakes. New York is always going to have high totals with that stacked lineup, so any improvements on the mound could lend value to the Under.

Seattle Mariners (8-3 Over/Under)
The Mariners are another team off to a surprise start. Seattle is 7-4 to begin 2018 in a very competitive American League West. The M’s are plating a respectable 4.84 runs an outing but aren’t necessarily ripping the cover off the baseball.

For those betting Seattle Overs, the pitching staff is doing the heavy lifting. The Mariners arms are giving up a 4.88 ERA through 11 games, with blame pointed at the starters who boast a 5.49 ERA. The starting rotation has served up 12 home runs and has only struck out 43 batters total – second-lowest in the majors. And they haven’t faced any true offensive powers either, so expect the Overs to keep coming as the Mariners take on the top bats in the AL.

Boston Red Sox (7-5-1 Over/Under)
The Red Sox staff is doing everything it can to stop Over backers from cashing in. Boston sits fifth in the majors with a collective 3.07 ERA and has struck out 131 batters through the first 13 games of 2018 (it helps that three of those games were against the big-swinging, big-missing Yankees). Despite their best efforts, the Over continues to cash.

The Red Sox lineup is equally as good, plating 5.85 runs per outing and hitting .263 BA – both rank third in MLB. The BoSox are on a red-hot tear at the plate heading into the weekend, putting six or more runs on the board in six straight outings. Boston is always a popular Over play, so this could be one of the most difficult Over/Under teams to cap once the markets correct.
